EDUCATION SYSTEM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ARTIST SUICIDE? KNOW WHY!

Education plays an important role in the advancement of the country, and it has become an essential part of once life a bit like an essential requirement. Education is the act of acquiring particular knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits required for a profession. Nowadays there is a lot of discussion about the Indian education system. Many people think that the present education system has many defects, as it kills the artistic skills of an individual so we cannot develop the creativity in them. Artistic experience includes skill and ability to design fine works of art like painting, drawing, sculpting, musical composition, etc.

The current education system mostly focuses on burdening the student with theoretical aspects of knowledge and getting ready for employment, which may lead to stress. Education helps to understand the difference between good and bad, moral, and immoral.

The Education system in India is declining because of more fundamental reasons. Our education is subjective, not skill-based,  by the time a student completes his schooling still he is continuing that learning. Most of the tests in the school measure intelligence. Teachers think that the person with the highest marks or grades is highly talented and vice-versa, that is not always true. Schools will not accept children who are different. The students who don’t score well-considered as under-achievers or trouble makers. There were many instances that we have seen in the past, the grades like the scientist Albert Einstein, the inventor Alexander Graham Bell also considers as troublemakers in their childhood but became a highly creative genius for the future generations.

Unfortunately, The Indian education system has revised therefore drastically that the ability/talent of the student is measured individually with the help of marks secured by him, because of that, students are just remembering things and writing without any proper knowledge. As it is degree oriented, the success of the academic system is being measured by the number of students Who scored a centum. In our education system, there are many imperfections. We mostly rely on academics and focus on subjects like languages and mathematics followed by chemistry, physics, and economics giving the least preference for art and craftwork, so that creativity places a minor role or suppressed in schools.

PRESSURE SORE RESULT:

In the present competitive world to sustain in society our education system, schools and colleges pressurize the children for the results, that most of the parents stick to the academics of their youngsters. It is tough to identify the skills of students in the class by the teacher, as the time of the class is less, so they focus on the curriculum only. It does not give a chance for students to show their creativity.  After school hours, parents do not allow their children to play for a longer period, which tends to cut the artistic skills of the individual.  The child will spend 9 to 10 hours daily reading books and studying for grades and has to handle pressure from multiple sites i.e., from teachers, and parents. As they think being subjective is more important than being creative, it builds pressure on the children that leads to psychological barriers and not allowing them to think out of the box. If the students get lower grades they will be disturbed emotionally and sometimes, they even try to attempt suicide. The studies reveal that the student with more artistic skills showed well in academics.

ECONOMICAL INFLUENCE AND DROPOUTS:

Economical influence also plays a vital role to kill artistic skills among individuals. Even the government has taken many initiations by implementing arts in education to develop skills among the children still, there are many educational institutes, government schools, and colleges that do not have art teachers, and proper infrastructure facilities( in rural areas), due to that, the students who have talent were being discouraged and not being rewarded for their skills which tend to leave artistic skill.

Most of the creative people are college dropouts because our schooling system does not support creativity and allows us to follow the textbook, which does not allow them to think innovative. We hear stories of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and many successful people all of them are an ultra-successful millionaire and billionaire college dropouts.

FREEDOM OF EXPRESS:

A student can become creative only when he/she has certain knowledge to do innovative things. But our education system says to do the things which were already done by someone else and thus, it does not encourage students to do things differently. Our education system is purely teacher based i.e whatever the teacher or the lecturer says, the student needs to follow that only. And they are not allowed to ask questions creatively, and this affects the creative skill of the individual. For the next time, a child feels emotionally shy about expressing his/her ideas and does not ask questions by assuming what others will think about him and so on. Similarly, they will not express their views with their parents also because most of the parents believe in a subjective thing, rather than a creative thing. It shows an effect on their creativity, which leads to the killing of their artistic skill.

When we constantly make kids worry about what they are doing, they ignore satisfaction which leads to a loss of interest in their creativity. While they are working, we need to observe their works, and understand their works, and encourage them, so that they feel highly motivated and do their work with interest, and thus their creativity level also increases.

THE EDUCATION SYSTEM FOSTER CREATIVITY, BUT NOT EDUCATION

What changes we need to be made to achieve their creativity

Education does not kill creativity. Education develops the mind which allows for more creativity to flow.  There should be some revolutionary changes to be made in the education system. The right mix of creativity along with the curriculum helps the student to be innovative and also motivate them to learn new things and to improve their emotional and social skills.

To overcome this, it has to focus on:

  • skill-based education.
  • Encourage new ideas.
  • The reward for creativity and innovation.
  • Implement a well-structured infrastructure for education.
  • Giving them the space to flourish.
  • Reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Innovative mindset.
  • The interrelationship between real life and education.

CONCLUSION:

The Indian children work very hard from their primary educational level itself. These are some of the flaws in our education system that affects the artistic skill of the individual.

Instead of focusing too much on finding a career path that is followed by everyone, an artist can follow his or her passion and earn a living in this world. We are in its possible with the technology we have. So, stop listening to people who don’t have any idea about all this.
